Compressor oil overcharge — slugging & compressor damage

Symptoms — oil level above spec. Excess oil circulation lowers evaporator/condenser heat transfer (poor cooling, higher discharge temp); in severe cases oil carries into the cylinder → slugging

Check: Slugging risk — liquid (oil) entering the cylinder breaks valves, head gasket, connecting rod. Liquid is incompressible, so momentary pressure spikes to several times the normal discharge pressure

What to do: Restore to spec oil level — remove excess and set to the manufacturer’s level. If liquid floodback is involved, prevent recurrence with a properly sized suction accumulator and crankcase heater
