AC Capacity Shortage — Install vs Leak vs Coil Blockage Diagnosis
Likely causes
3-scenario priority diagnosis
Check: **Install issue (within 1 yr of new/relocation)**: pipe >7m, height diff >5m, no flare torque, no proper vacuum. Check install date/tech first. **Leak (after 1 yr)**: LP<60 psi, lukewarm outdoor discharge, current <80% of rated. **Coil block (3+ yr)**: indoor ΔT<5°C, low airflow even with clean filter, coil dust/mold.
What to do: Install issue: installer's warranty (free 1 yr). Get install date/receipt photo, refer customer to installer. Leak: locate (N₂ pressure 1.5 MPa, soap, electronic detector, UV dye). Recover→repair→vacuum→charge. Coil block: chemical coil cleaning (alkaline external, neutral internal) + filter replace. Quote yearly cleaning.
Ask customer when it started and outdoor temp before diagnosis. Korean Jul-Aug ambient >35°C drops to 80% of rated capacity (equipment limit). For new apartment embedded pipe (>10m), check additional charge (g/m per OEM manual). For 1-yr installation disputes, refer to installer first.
