AC New Install — Outdoor Unit Clearance and Airflow Space
Likely causes
Step 1 — Manual clearance + service space + wind direction
Check: Recommended clearance: intake ≥30 cm, exhaust ≥60 cm, sides ≥30 cm, top ≥60 cm (manufacturer manual prevails). 2021 IMC = 30×30 inch (76×76 cm) service space at control panel side. ≥1.5 m from dryer vent. Korean apartment complexes = ≥50 cm from neighbor's outdoor unit. Side walls/screens that block intake/exhaust cause short cycling.
What to do: Recommended clearances: intake ≥30 cm, exhaust ≥60 cm, sides ≥30 cm, top ≥60 cm. Service space 30×30 inch (76×76 cm) on control panel side. ≥1.5 m from dryer vent. Korean apartments ≥50 cm from neighbor outdoor unit. Shade canopy must not block airflow.
Insufficient clearance = short cycling → 30% efficiency loss + compressor lifespan shortened. Direct sun = higher condensing pressure; provide shading (without blocking airflow). Never let neighbor's exhaust feed into your intake.
