Condenser/Evaporator Fin Straightening — Comb & Compressed Air

Likely causes

Bent fins = 30-50% airflow loss + capacity drop

Check: Causes: ① Transport/relocation impact. ② Brushing during nest removal. ③ Wind (typhoon, debris). ④ Salt corrosion (Gangwon/Jeolla coast 1-yr). Check: ① Visual (uneven fin grid). ② Anemometer (normal 2.5 m/s, <1.5 = poor). ③ ΔT <6°C (normal 8-12). Impact: compressor current +20%, HP +50 psi, power +15%.

What to do: **Procedure**: ① OFF + remove outdoor grill. ② Select fin comb (5-12 FPI compatible, ₩3-5k). R-410A residential typical 14-16 FPI. ③ Comb opposite to bend direction (top-down, slow). ④ Compressed air (5-7 bar) blow (removes dust along fin direction). ⑤ Corroded/cracked fins = comb won't restore (partial or full coil replace). ⑥ Recheck ΔT/airflow. Avg 20-40 min, quote ₩50-100k, severe corrosion = coil replacement ₩500k-1M.

Field tip

Fin comb 5/6/8/10/12 FPI 5-pack (₩3-5k) every tech should carry. Korean coast (Gangneung/Gunsan/Jeju) = yearly coil sanitize + fin comb (salt). Sell as 'next season check + fin restore + clean = ₩30k' package. Compressed air requires safety glasses + KF94 mask (dust).
