Infrared Remote Not Responding — pressing buttons causes no AC response

Likely causes

Low battery voltage — AA below 1.1 V causes sharp drop in IR output

Check: Point remote at rear smartphone camera and press button — purple/white blinking means LED OK; no blink = dead battery or LED failure

What to do: Replace with new AA batteries (confirm 1.5 V) → retest. If LED faulty, solder-replace VS1838B or equivalent photodetector

Dirty receiver window — dust and grease on indoor unit front panel

Check: Visually inspect IR receiver window on indoor unit — greasy/dusty film attenuates signal. Test by holding remote within 30 cm directly in front of receiver

What to do: Power off → gently wipe receiver window with isopropyl alcohol swab → power on and verify response

Sunlight or fluorescent interference — direct light above 1000 lux saturates receiver

Check: Draw curtains or turn off fluorescent lights and retest — if remote works after blocking light, interference is the cause

What to do: Review indoor unit installation position — if exposed to direct sunlight, attach light shield. Alternatively replace with wired wall controller

Field tip

Checking IR LED with rear smartphone camera in 5 seconds is the fastest field diagnosis. Front camera has IR filter and cannot be used.
