Inverter vs Fixed-Speed — Diagnosis Priority Differences

Likely causes

Diagnosis order differs by type

Check: **Inverter (most after 2010)**: ① Error code (CH/E first) → ② Main PCB/inverter board → ③ EEV (not TXV) → ④ DC compressor winding (U-V-W equal, within 5%) → ⑤ NTC (10kΩ@25°C). **Fixed-speed (older/industrial)**: ① Capacitor (Start 35-80μF, Run 7.5-50μF) → ② Magnetic contactor → ③ TXV/CPR → ④ Compressor insulation/OL.

What to do: Inverter parts must match model code (e.g. LG SH series, Samsung AR series). No 'compatible' substitutes. Fixed-speed has wider parts compatibility (cap/contactor are standard). DC compressor cannot run directly — only through inverter board.

Field tip

Identify by outdoor model suffix (LG: H/W/S = inverter, N/F = fixed). Nameplate 'INVERTER' confirms. You can megger fixed-speed compressor, but for DC inverter compressor, disconnect inverter board first or it'll burn.
