PCB Killed by Lightning/Surge — SPD Install & Protection
Likely causes
Summer monsoon lightning — surge through comm and power lines
Check: After lightning, no response or error (LG CH05/CH26 / Samsung E101/E458). Black scorch on indoor/outdoor PCB, blown capacitors. 14/4 comm line may be charred → both power and signal damaged.
What to do: Install Type 2 SPD after dedicated breaker (Iimp 12.5kA, Up≤1.5kV). Separate signal SPD for comm line. Quote full replacement of PCB + capacitors + comm line (lightning causes multiple damage). For insurance, check KEPCO lightning record. Ground ≤4Ω.
Don't turn breaker ON right after lightning — residual charge can widen damage. Check input voltage and ground insulation with multimeter first. Korean summer (Jun-Sep) lightning is common in Gangwon/Jeolla/Jeju — preinstall SPD. New builds increasingly require integrated SPD in distribution panel (KS C IEC 61643).
All 565 cases work offline in R-Pro, with error codes for 62 brands and P-T data for 108 refrigerants.
