Precision AC — Server Room N+1 / N+2 Failover System
Likely causes
N+1/N+2 configuration and auto switchover
Check: Tier III (N+1) = N for ops + 1 backup, 99.982% uptime (annual 1.6 hr down). Tier IV (N+2 or 2N), 99.995% uptime (0.4 hr/yr). Auto switchover ≤30 sec (ASHRAE 90.4). Each precision AC = communicates with BMS/server PMS. Quarterly failover test required.
What to do: Quarterly failover test required: ① Force-stop one operational unit → verify backup auto-starts within 30 sec ② Confirm BMS alarm fires ③ Measure recovery time. Failed test = inspect PCB/communication/relays immediately. Mandatory archive of test reports.
Data centers = Tier IV adoption growing. Failover failure = $millions in damage. Regular tests must verify compressor + comm. Korea = KT IDC/LG U+/NAVER standardized. Not relevant for residential.
