Absorption Chiller LiBr Crystallization Accident — Pipe and Heat Exchanger Blockage

Likely causes

LiBr solution concentration exceeds 65% — crystallization at ~50°C blocks pipes

Check: Immediately measure LiBr concentration by sampling — concentration ≥65% is crystallization risk. Check solution circulation pump current spike or shutdown (overcurrent when impeller jams from crystallization)

What to do: Stop machine immediately upon confirming crystallization — absolutely no forced circulation (pump impeller damage risk). Apply external steam or hot water (60~80°C) to crystallized pipe sections → verify gradual dissolution. Manually open dilution water valve, dilute until LiBr concentration below 55%, then restart

Machine stops without completing dilution cycle

Check: Check power failure or emergency stop history — verify if dilution cycle ran for 15+ minutes before shutdown. Check sequence log to see if cooling water pump shut off before the machine

What to do: Prevention: configure stop sequence to force 15+ minute dilution cycle completion before shutdown. Secure dilution cycle power via UPS or emergency generator for power failure. Fix cooling water pump shutdown sequence to occur after chiller main unit
