Air Blast Cooler Fan Belt Wear → Reduced Airflow and Cooling Capacity

Likely causes

V-belt wear — airflow drops from design 6~8 m/s to below 3 m/s, belt sides glossy and cracked

Check: Measure discharge airflow with anemometer (below 3 m/s = immediate inspection) + visually inspect belt: check for glossy sides, cracks, and wear powder

What to do: 1. Replace V-belt: use same part number and length, adjust tension to max 10mm sag after installation 2. After replacement, verify airflow restored to above 6 m/s with anemometer 3. Shorten belt replacement interval to 6 months for cold storage environments (vs standard 12 months)

Pulley misalignment — belt riding to one side causing accelerated wear and vibration noise

Check: Use straight-edge or laser alignment tool to confirm drive and driven pulleys are in the same plane → misalignment if deviation exceeds 0.5mm

What to do: 1. Correct pulley alignment by adjusting motor or fan shaft position (within 0.5mm tolerance) 2. Re-tighten pulley boss fixing bolts to specified torque 3. After alignment correction, verify by re-measuring after 1 hour of operation

Belt tensioner spring fatigue — unable to maintain tension, increased slippage

Check: Check tensioner arm position — if belt sag exceeds 10mm under natural spring tension, spring fatigue or tensioner defect

What to do: 1. Replace entire tensioner assembly (spring, arm, pulley as a unit) 2. After replacement, confirm sag within 10mm 3. Check sag daily for first week after replacement (confirm initial seating)

Fan bearing beginning to seize — increased rotational resistance overloading the belt

Check: Measure bearing housing surface temperature (normal: within ambient +20°C) + listen for abnormal noise (grinding, rumbling)

What to do: 1. Inject bearing grease (every 3 months, use lithium-based low-temperature grease) 2. If noise and temperature do not improve after greasing, replace bearing 3. When replacing, select bearing suitable for cold storage environment (low-temp anti-rust coating)

Overload operation (forced fan running with frosted coil) causing premature belt failure

Check: Check coil frost thickness before defrost — if over 5mm, defrost before starting fans Measure fan startup current (amps) — 20%+ above rated indicates coil overload condition

What to do: 1. Revise operating procedure: verify defrost complete before starting fans when coil frost is 5mm+ 2. Forced defrost: 3kW heat gun or steam gun 30~60 min; fan-only natural defrost prohibited (product loss) 3. Set fan startup current interlock — block startup if current exceeds 130% of rated

Field tip

When replacing the belt, always inspect pulley groove wear too. If the belt is touching the bottom of the pulley groove, the pulley also needs replacing.
