Capillary Tube Blockage — Small Hermetic Refrigerators
Likely causes
Moisture freeze-up — complete blockage at midpoint of capillary
Check: Check for rising high pressure and suction approaching vacuum; if warming capillary with heat gun causes temporary recovery, moisture freeze confirmed
What to do: Recover all refrigerant → nitrogen reverse pressure (5–7 bar) + forward blow to clear blockage → if not cleared, replace capillary with identical spec (same length and ID) + replace drier + vacuum below 1,000 microns
Oil sludge buildup — carbonized oil residue after long operation
Check: Run hand along entire capillary to locate sudden temperature change point — identifies blockage location
What to do: Attempt sludge removal with nitrogen reverse pressure → if ineffective, replace capillary with new identical spec
External crush or kink — pipe damage during service
Check: Visually inspect entire capillary for crush, kink, or flattened section
What to do: Kinked section cannot be repaired → replace entire capillary with identical spec; measure original length with tape before ordering
Even 1 cm difference in capillary length affects cooling capacity — always measure original length and replace with identical spec
