Digital Scroll Solenoid Failure — Loss of 15% Capacity Modulation
Likely causes
Solenoid coil resistance abnormal — normal 12Ω, risen to 15Ω+ or open circuit
Check: Measure solenoid coil resistance with multimeter — failure if outside 12Ω ±20% range (9.6~14.4Ω). Open circuit shows infinite reading
What to do: Replace solenoid coil → direct-wire test (apply 24V DC) → confirm operation before reinstall. If coil is OK but still failing, check control board PWM terminal with oscilloscope
Solenoid plunger seized — cannot switch load/unload, stuck at 100% or 0%
Check: Remove solenoid valve, manually actuate plunger — should move smoothly when pushed and pulled by hand. Check for refrigeration oil sludge or contamination
What to do: Clean solenoid port with solvent, reassemble plunger → if no improvement, replace entire solenoid. Address oil sludge root cause: change oil + replace filter drier
Solenoid coil spec 12Ω — one multimeter check on-site diagnoses failure in 5 seconds. If only the 15% range is abnormal, suspect solenoid first.
