Fan Motor Bearing Noise / Overheating
Likely causes
Grease depleted in bearings — extended operation without lubrication
Check: Measure bearing outer temperature with non-contact thermometer — stop immediately if above 70°C; check noise stage (squeak→grinding→knocking)
What to do: Add 3–5g grease at nipple and restart → if noise persists, disassemble motor and replace bearing (original spec e.g. 6205-2RS) → replace with IP55+ waterproof motor mandatory
Water ingress causing rust inside bearings — humid cooling tower environment
Check: Disassemble bearing and inspect interior — brown/orange rust = replacement needed; check for seal damage
What to do: Clean interior, refill with corrosion-resistant grease, or replace bearing → strengthen external sealing (IP55+) → grease interval: 3 months (humid env.) or 2,000 hours
Bearing noise worsens in stages: squeak → grinding → knocking. If lubrication fixes the squeak stage, replacement may be avoided.
