Oil Separator Internal Filter Clog — Excessive Discharge Pressure
Likely causes
Sludge and carbon deposit buildup due to long overdue filter replacement (interval exceeded 1 year)
Check: Check discharge pressure with high-pressure gauge — if 0.3 MPa or more above normal, suspect filter clog first; increased discharge piping vibration also occurs
What to do: Recover refrigerant → disassemble oil separator → replace filter element (4,000 operating hours or 1 year) → oil sample TAN test (replace oil if TAN > 0.5 mgKOH/g) → nitrogen leak test at 1.5 MPa → charge refrigerant
Accumulated metal particles from compressor wear causing filter blinding
Check: After filtering oil, use magnet on residue to check for iron content — iron detected means compressor wear must be investigated
What to do: Replace filter + replace full oil charge → inspect compressor suction strainer → recheck compressor vibration, noise, and current
Discharge piping vibration increase + high-pressure alarm at the same time: check oil separator filter clog first — replacing filter and oil together doubles the interval to recurrence
