Rotary Cylinder-Rotor Clearance Wear — Internal Leakage Causing Capacity Loss
Likely causes
Oil shortage or degradation causes eccentric cylinder-rotor wear — normal clearance 0.01~0.03 mm → worn to 0.08 mm or more
Check: After refrigerant recovery, disassemble: measure cylinder-rotor clearance with micrometer — replace if exceeds 0.05 mm. Simultaneously check oil level and oil quality
What to do: Clearance exceeds 0.05 mm: replace cylinder and rotor (or whole compressor) → change oil and clean oil separator → vacuum to ≤500μmHg → recharge refrigerant → confirm volumetric efficiency returns to 75~85%
Foreign material contamination — metal powder and sludge abrasively wear cylinder wall
Check: When disassembling filter drier, check screen for contamination and metal powder. Oil sample magnet test — many iron particles indicates internal wear in progress
What to do: Full system flush → replace filter drier → eliminate foreign material source (piping weld scale, poor installation)
Continuous 24-hour operation of small refrigerators accelerates wear by destroying the lubrication film. If volumetric efficiency is below 70%, full compressor replacement is more economical than cylinder reboring.
