Solenoid Valve Coil Open Circuit — Pump-Down Failure
Likely causes
Coil overheating — internal winding open
Check: Coil surface >60°C suggests overheating; measure coil resistance with multimeter — normal 5~50Ω, ∞ confirms open
What to do: Remove coil → visually inspect for burn marks → replace with new coil (verify voltage 24V/110V/220V) → replace O-ring simultaneously → confirm rated current ±10% after replacement
Wrong coil voltage rating applied
Check: Compare voltage marking on coil label vs actual supply voltage; 110V coil on 220V burns immediately
What to do: Verify supply voltage and replace with matching coil spec; if voltage surge is cause, install SPD (surge protection device)
Plunger seizure causing coil overcurrent burnout
Check: Remove coil, test plunger with magnet — no movement = seized; foreign debris (sludge, metal particles) may block core-plunger gap
What to do: Clean plunger and reassemble; if cause is foreign debris, replace filter-drier and inspect oil condition; re-test pump-down circuit (verify low-pressure switch cuts out correctly)
Always replace the O-ring when swapping the coil. If the coil surface is too hot to touch (>60°C), immediately recheck voltage and current.
