Suction Pipe Insulation Peeling — Condensation and Ceiling Water Leak

Likely causes

Insulation tape joints lifting — condensation forms directly on cold copper pipe surface

Check: Identify condensation zone: wipe pipe dry, check condensation point after 30 minutes; visually check for lifted insulation joints; verify thickness (refrigeration 25mm+, AC 13mm+)

What to do: Remove all peeling insulation and reinstall — double wrap aluminum tape at all joints; replace with correct thickness where insufficient; protect outdoor pipes with PVC jacket or aluminum lagging for UV shielding

Insufficient insulation thickness — below required specification

Check: Measure actual insulation thickness: refrigeration suction lines (-15°C and below) minimum 25mm, AC minimum 13mm; check if condensation occurs in undersized sections

What to do: Replace insulation where thickness is insufficient; re-inspect 2 weeks after reinstallation during peak summer for recurrence; maintain ceiling humidity below 60% (improve ventilation or install dehumidifier)

Field tip

Refrigeration suction lines (-15°C and below) require 25mm insulation; double-wrapping joints with aluminum tape is critical — single wrap lifts within 6 months
