4-Way Valve Partial Switching — Heating/Cooling Mode Change Failure

Likely causes

Valve slide worn or debris stuck

Check: slide stops mid-travel

What to do: Measure solenoid coil resistance — replace if outside normal range (typically 30~70Ω)

Solenoid coil voltage fault (>±15% deviation from rated 24V AC)

Check: Inspect with instruments or visually

What to do: Verify actual 24V AC output voltage at control panel during switching

Pilot valve malfunction

Check: insufficient pressure to drive main slide

What to do: Recover refrigerant fully and remove valve — inspect slide for debris and wear

Refrigerant pressure imbalance

Check: pressure differential too low for slide movement

What to do: Stop compressor for 30+ seconds before switching to equalize pressure, then retry

Valve body distortion from piping stress

Check: Inspect with instruments or visually

What to do: If slide is seized, lightly tap valve body with rubber mallet — temporary fix, replace immediately

Field tip

On switching failure, first try stopping the compressor for 30 seconds to equalize pressure — resolves 30%+ of cases on its own.
