Acid Contamination (Post Motor Burnout Circuit Contamination)
Likely causes
Motor burnout causing copper plating throughout circuit
Check: Check for acid contamination using oil acid test kit
What to do: Check for acid contamination using oil acid test kit → Recover all refrigerant (contaminated refrigerant requires special disposal) → Flush entire circuit with flushing refrigerant or nitrogen → Simultaneously replace drier, TXV screen, and suction strainer → Install new compressor and evacuate (≤500 μm Hg) → After recharging, replace drier again within 1 week
Oil and refrigerant acidification corroding pipework

Motor burnout has spread acidic contaminants throughout the circuit. Replacing only the compressor without cleaning will cause re-burnout. Starting a new compressor in a contaminated circuit will cause rapid re-burnout. Always complete circuit cleaning first.
