Auger Motor Startup Failure
Likely causes
Ice bridging inside evaporator (over-freezing)
Check: Listen for abnormal noise and check if motor spins during startup; touch evaporator barrel for abnormal cold spots
What to do: Power off and allow to thaw at room temperature (4~6 hours); identify root cause — refrigerant overcharge or harvest malfunction
Start capacitor failure
Check: Measure capacitor capacitance — within ±10% of rated = normal; reading 0 or excessive = faulty
What to do: Replace with same capacitance (μF) and voltage rating; verify with startup current measurement after replacement
Gearbox seized or damaged
Check: Manually rotate auger shaft — should turn freely with no resistance; heavy resistance or seized = gearbox failure
What to do: Inject food-grade PTFE grease; replace gearbox assembly if no improvement
Overload relay (OL Relay) trip
Check: Check OL relay reset button — if tripped, button protrudes; compare motor rated current with OL setting
What to do: Reset after 5-minute cooling; if root cause unresolved, repeat trips will occur — repair capacitor/gearbox first then restart
Bearing damage
Check: Listen for metal grinding noise or vibration during motor rotation; measure bearing area temperature — above 60°C = damaged
What to do: Replace bearing (same specification); if poor lubrication was the cause, establish periodic grease replenishment schedule
First check for auger motor startup failure: manually rotate auger shaft — won't turn = gearbox/ice bridging; turns freely = check capacitor then OL relay
