Ice with Abnormal Odor or Taste

Likely causes

Ice bin contamination (slime/mold)

Check: Visually inspect bin interior — pink/yellow slime or black mold; use UV light to detect microbial colonies

What to do: Immediately stop operation → discard all remaining ice → full wash with food-grade cleaner → rinse → restart

Supply line contamination

Check: Directly smell water supply hose/pipe — foreign odor = line contamination; simultaneously measure water TDS

What to do: Flush line (minimum 5 min at high flow); replace contaminated sections; use food-grade hose

Water basin/circulation pump slime

Check: Visually inspect water basin and circulation pump — check for viscous slime film; slime is the #1 cause of odor

What to do: Circulate nickel-safe cleaner 1:16~1:32 dilution for 1 hour → rinse 3 times; schedule preventive cleaning every 3 months

Absorption of ambient odors

Check: Check machine environment — exposure to smoke, cleaning chemicals, food odors; inspect bin lid and gasket sealing

What to do: Relocate or improve ventilation; replace damaged gasket — must pass 0.76mm paper test
