Defrost Heater Wire Break
Likely causes
Heater element degradation wire break
Check: Measure heater resistance — normal 20~80Ω; open circuit (∞) = break; if broken, simultaneously check thermal fuse
What to do: Replace with same capacity/spec heater; replace thermal fuse simultaneously (30% co-failure with heater); confirm defrost operation after replacement
Thermal fuse blown — heater overheat protection activated
Check: Check thermal fuse continuity — normal: 0Ω; broken: ∞Ω; identify cause of fuse blow (defrost termination sensor failure causes overheat)
What to do: Replace fuse (same temperature rating); simultaneously repair cause of overheat (termination sensor failure); fuse will blow again if overheat cause not resolved
Heater overcurrent break from overvoltage supply
Check: Measure heater input voltage — normal within ±10% of rated (typically 220V); if exceeded = power supply issue or connection error
What to do: Normalize power voltage; rewire if incorrectly connected; must verify voltage is normal before replacing heater
When heater breaks, always replace thermal fuse at the same time — these two parts are a set; replacing only the fuse without fixing root cause = 100% recurrence
