Defrost Timer Interval Too Long → Increasing Frost Thickness
Likely causes
Defrost interval set to 6 hours — too long for actual frost accumulation rate, frost thickness exceeds 5mm
Check: Visually check frost thickness between evaporator fins — ≥5mm requires shorter interval
What to do: Shorten defrost interval from 6 hrs to 3 hrs → recheck frost next day and repeat adjustment
Increased door open frequency or high humidity environment change not accounted for
Check: Measure outdoor humidity — if >80% RH, increase defrost frequency. Check door opening log
What to do: During summer/rainy season (humidity >80%), increase defrost frequency from 2 to 4 times per day
Analog timer clock drift — long-term use causes ±30 min actual interval deviation
Check: Time actual defrost start with stopwatch over 3 consecutive cycles → replace timer if >30 min deviation from setting
What to do: Replace analog timer with digital timer (ELIWELL, Carel, etc.) — achieves ±1 min accuracy
Field rule: if frost between evaporator fins is ≥5mm, halve the defrost interval. Run a finger along the fins to gauge ice thickness.
