Electronic Controller (Dixell/Eliwell) Parameter Loss or Probe Error
Likely causes
Power outage caused EEPROM reset — all parameters reverted to factory defaults
Check: Check controller display: if Set Point differs from operating temperature (e.g. 2~5°C), EEPROM reset occurred. Compare product temp vs set temp
What to do: Re-enter parameters (Set/Hy/LSt/USt/dEF etc.) from manufacturer's factory parameter sheet. If unavailable, copy from another unit of same model
NTC probe open/short circuit — displays Er1 (open) or Er2 (short) error
Check: Measure NTC resistance with multimeter: 0°C≈10kΩ, 25°C≈5kΩ. 0Ω = short, OL = open. Verify probe is correctly inserted between evaporator fins
What to do: If open/short, replace with same spec NTC probe. For Dixell: verify NTC 10kΩ B=3977 spec before ordering
NTC connector corrosion/poor contact — moisture infiltration oxidized pins
Check: Disconnect NTC connector at controller rear and visually inspect pins: green/white powder = rust, bent or loose pins. Contact resistance should be <0.5Ω
What to do: Clean with contact cleaner (CRC 2-26 etc.), straighten pins. If severe corrosion, replace entire connector. Apply silicone grease for moisture protection
RTC battery discharged — defrost schedule and clock settings lost
Check: If clock resets to 00:00 after power cycle, RTC battery is discharged. Measure battery voltage: normal 3V, replace if <2.5V
What to do: Replace CR2032 coin cell (every 3~5 years). Parameters are retained after replacement but clock and defrost schedule must be reset
Password lost — cannot access parameter menu
Check: Confirm password prompt on parameter entry. Dixell default: 22 or 0 (varies by model). Eliwell default: 1234. If changed, check with site manager
What to do: Dixell master reset: press UP+DOWN+SET simultaneously for 3 seconds (within 5 seconds of power-on). All parameters reset — re-enter immediately. If reset fails, contact Dixell tech support
Power surges/voltage instability causing repeated controller malfunctions
Check: Measure input voltage: within ±10% of rated (198~242V for 220V). Surge history indicated by bulging capacitor tops or burnt triac marks
What to do: Install surge protection device (SPD). For sites with severe voltage fluctuation, add AVR (automatic voltage regulator). If capacitors aged, replace controller board
