Evaporator Fan Motor Burnout

Likely causes

Fan blade seized by coil icing — overload burnout

Check: Manually rotate fan blade — cannot rotate = iced and seized; measure motor insulation resistance — below 1MΩ = burned

What to do: Defrost coil then verify fan blade rotation; replace motor if burned (same W/rpm/blade count); verify insulation resistance above 1MΩ after replacement

Fan restarted before defrost ends — motor exposed to heater heat

Check: Check fan delay timer setting — 3~5 min delay is normal; without delay, heater high heat can damage motor windings

What to do: Verify and set fan delay timer to 3~5 min; replace motor if burned

Voltage instability — motor overheating

Check: Measure fan motor supply voltage — normal within ±10% of rated; sustained low voltage causes motor overcurrent → burnout

What to do: Add voltage stabilizer; inspect power wiring; verify voltage is normalized before replacement

Field tip

Always check for coil icing before replacing fan motor — if icing cause is not resolved, the replacement motor will burn out the same way; memorize insulation resistance standard of 1MΩ
