Internal Odor / Pink Mold (Serratia marcescens)
Likely causes
Serratia marcescens colony formation — pink/orange slime
Check: Check storage bin, basin, and spray nozzle areas for pink/orange slime — Serratia identifiable by color; if odor also abnormal, immediately stop operation
What to do: Immediately stop operation → discard all ice → full disinfection with food-grade sanitizer → rinse → restart; preventive cleaning every 3 months
Serratia contamination entering through water supply
Check: Check entire water supply piping for bacterial contamination — measure residual chlorine (normal 0.1~0.3 ppm); if deficient, piping is contaminated
What to do: Flush and disinfect water supply piping; restore residual chlorine to standard; consider adding RO filter + UV sterilizer
Incomplete drying after cleaning — regrowth in residual moisture
Check: Check internal drying state after cleaning — if residual moisture remains, regrowth possible within 6~12 hours
What to do: Run fan forced operation for 4+ hours after cleaning to dry interior; restart only after complete drying; minimize rinsing after final sanitizer application
Upon discovering pink mold (Serratia marcescens): immediately stop operation + discard all ice — food safety issue; prevention is 3-month preventive cleaning cycle
