Motor Cooling Failure from Low Refrigerant → Overheating
Likely causes
Slow circuit leak gradually depleting refrigerant
Check: Check suction pressure on low-side gauge (abnormally low?)
What to do: Check suction pressure on low-side gauge (abnormally low?) → Scan all pipework with leak detector → Repair leak, evacuate, and recharge by weight → After charging, verify suction pressure and superheat are normal → Replace filter drier if temperature drop across it exceeds 2°C
Reduced suction gas flow from clogged filter drier

Low refrigerant reduces return gas volume, causing insufficient motor cooling and overheating. Repair leak and recharge. Recharging without fixing the leak is a stopgap — repeated overheating will destroy the compressor.
