Poor Re-cooling After Defrost Cycle
Likely causes
Defrost heater overheating deforms evaporator fins — reduced airflow
Check: Visually check evaporator fin deformation → measure defrost heater resistance (check for open circuit) → compare coil temperature records before/after defrost
What to do: Straighten deformed fins (use fin comb) → replace heater if burned → verify coil temperature drops below +10°C after defrost
Poor defrost drainage — clogged drain tray causes repeated re-freezing
Check: Check for water pooling in drain tray after defrost → inspect drain pipe heating cable for breaks → check drain for blockage
What to do: Clean drain tray and drain pipe → replace drain pipe heating cable → verify fan delay time after defrost (recommended: 2–5 minutes)
Defrost thermostat malfunction or defrost timer failure
Check: Verify defrost thermostat trip temperature: +10 to +13°C cutoff for standard refrigeration — faulty if outside set value
What to do: Replace thermostat if faulty → re-verify defrost timer settings (cycle and duration) → check refrigerant charge to identify pull-down time anomaly
If pull-down time after defrost is 30% longer than previous cycles, suspect low refrigerant or insulation issue — also check if defrost frequency has increased in the operation log.
