TXV Hunting Due to Fluctuating Load
Likely causes
TXV superheat setting too low causing oversensitive response
Check: Measure current superheat: evap outlet temp − suction sat. temp (if <3°C it is too low)
What to do: Measure current superheat: evap outlet temp − suction sat. temp (if <3°C it is too low) → Turn TXV adjustment screw clockwise in 1/4-turn increments → Wait 20 minutes and re-measure superheat (target: 5–8°C) → Check stability and repeat if needed
Large evaporator load fluctuations

Heavy load fluctuations cause TXV hunting as it chases superheat. Increase superheat setting slightly to stabilize. Setting superheat above 10°C reduces cooling capacity. Target the 5–8°C range.
