TXV Over-closure from Spring Over-tension or Bulb Gas Loss

Likely causes

Sensing bulb charge gas leak — opening signal lost

Check: Turn TXV adjustment screw counterclockwise 2 turns and check for change

What to do: Turn TXV adjustment screw counterclockwise 2 turns and check for change → If no change, suspect bulb gas loss → replace TXV → Replace filter drier at the same time → Measure superheat after replacement (target 5–8°C)

Adjustment spring over-tightened

Check: If no change, suspect bulb gas loss → replace TXV

What to do: If no change, suspect bulb gas loss → replace TXV → Replace filter drier at the same time → Measure superheat after replacement (target 5–8°C)

Diaphragm damaged

Check: Replace filter drier at the same time

What to do: Replace filter drier at the same time → Measure superheat after replacement (target 5–8°C)

Field tip

TXV is continuously over-closed. Check for sensing bulb gas loss and replace TXV. Prolonged over-closure stops refrigerant supply, causing compressor motor cooling failure and burnout.
